Vacation leak from an ice-maker line into the garage below
The clients came home from a vacation trip and found that a broken ice-maker water line had damaged more than the kitchen. Water had saturated the lower cabinets and a recently installed maple hardwood floor.
The leak also traveled down into the garage ceiling and garage walls. Personal belongings stored in the affected areas were exposed to the water as it spread below the kitchen.
Our crew removed the lower kitchen cabinets, the affected hardwood flooring, and made clean drywall cuts where wall material had been damaged by the water.
In the garage, we demolished the affected ceiling drywall, removed wet insulation, and opened damaged wall sections so the structure could be dried with dehumidification.
SAFENEST did not perform the reconstruction on this project, but our cabinet restoration partners restored the lower cabinets so they matched the cabinets that were not damaged. The hardwood contractor who had originally installed the floor returned to patch the affected area, and after refinishing, the repair became indistinguishable. Without knowing water damage had happened there, you would not see evidence of it.
